Welcome to Night City’s wonderful world of bathrooms! 🚽

Night City is a community space dedicated to hosting video game and interactive art exhibitions and showcasing game developers as local artists. You can read more about Night city here. Or feel free to say “hi” on our Discord. Come for the toilets, stay for the community! You can also follow us on Instagram.

Here’s the bathroom at Night City. The cool door sign is from JODI’s variable art based on history’s first video game bathroom in Jet Set Willy on the ZX Spectrum console.

The poster above the toilet is from the Night City original hit VR game T.P. One day we hope to make T.P. #2!
Here’s a video of T.P.:
Working on T.P. raised the question: why are bathrooms so engaging in video games?
Turns out there’s lots of reasons. If you are curious to read more, you can check out an article David worked on: The Purposes and Meanings of Video Game Bathrooms.
Here’s a video for those who don’t like reading! (And there’s that Jet Set Willy bathroom again!)

One cool thing about video game bathrooms: players intuitively understand the interactions and affordances of bathrooms. This can make game design easier, or offer interesting opportunities for subversion…
Here’s another bathroom game we made, Unrolled.

It’s a toilet paper unrolling arcade game that’s easy to play because people understand how toilet paper works. There’s no way the devs will ever approach the best times recorded by some players at MAGFest…
Also, we are happy to share that there is a custom Night City tile in the bathroom at Sickhouse in Enschede, Netherlands. Hopefully we can see it in person one day!

That’s all for now! We hope to see you at Night City soon!
